The American Physical Society Names Dylan Moulton as Global Sales Director of Scientific Publications

Key hire will drive transformational change as the world’s most prestigious collection of physics journals navigates changes in the publishing landscape

September 29, 2023 — The American Physical Society (APS) is pleased to announce that Dylan Moulton has joined as the Society’s Global Sales Director of Publications. Moulton will oversee the international sales operation for the Physical Review journals, supporting the Society’s valued relationships with consortia, funders, and the scientific community. Moulton is also charged with further developing APS’s open access operations and associated business models.

“We’re delighted to welcome Dylan to APS,” said Rachel Burley, APS’s Chief Publications Officer. “The Global Sales Director position is a strategically important role for APS. Dylan will be responsible for the development and execution of our global sales strategy, which will include ensuring that our open access solutions evolve in line with customer needs.”

Moulton brings 18 years of experience in sales and business model development for academic publishing, most recently serving as the North American Director of Institutional Sales at Springer Nature. His arrival comes at a pivotal moment as all scientific publishers are navigating broad changes in the publishing landscape.

“Because of APS’s highly focused portfolio and mission to benefit humanity and the physics community, our migration to an open science future must be a leading example of an equitable and sustainable future for all key players,” said Moulton.

Throughout his career, Moulton has delivered innovative solutions to complex challenges in academic publishing. He has negotiated multiple transformative agreements, overseen global pricing activities, managed four major sales teams to meet evolving market needs, and built high-impact business models.

“Dylan has demonstrated his commitment to innovation in academic publishing,” said Burley. “With him on our team, APS and the Physical Review journals are well placed to continue to lead in their fields.”
