February 4, 2016

The Clearinghouse for the Open Research of the United States (CHORUS) has elected APS Publisher Matthew Salter to its board of directors. The election was held during the organization’s annual members meeting on February 3, 2016, in Washington, D.C.  Salter, who recently joined the senior management staff of APS, will serve for a three-year term.

As a non-profit consortium of publishers (including APS), funding agencies, and others involved in scholarly publishing, CHORUS connects users with federally funded open-access research papers on publishers’ or agencies’ websites.  The CHORUS platform went live in July 2014 and now includes the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Geological Survey, and the National Science Foundation.

In a statement, Susan King, the chair of the CHORUS board of directors, said, “We are pleased to welcome John Sack [founding director of Highwire Press] and Matthew Salter to our Board....  Matthew Salter’s perspective has been informed by his diverse experiences as a research chemist who moved into editorial leadership roles for several leading societies and companies in the U.K., U.S., and Asia.”
