APS Guest Speaker Grant for MSIs

The APS Committee on Minorities (COM) will be providing support in the form of speaker grants of up to $1000 per institution per year to Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) to enable these institutions to host speakers for colloquium or seminar presentations. These speaker grants aim to provide opportunities for both the speaker to disseminate her/his research and the institution to bring in talented scientists. The visit should also stimulate undergraduate interest and engagement at the institution. Preference will be given to underrepresented minority speakers and speakers visiting multiple institutions in a region.

Eligibility extends to physics and physical science departments of minority-serving institutions and community colleges. Canadian and Mexican colleges & universities are also eligible to apply, provided that U.S. institutions currently employ the speakers they invite. APS COM requests that interested institutions provide the following when requesting travel grants:

  • CV of the Speaker
  • Title of Talk
  • A few sentences on the benefits to the department
  • Estimated list of expenses (allowed expenses include transportation, lodging, and honoraria)

Please email the requested information to minorities@aps.org. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
